May 22, 201214 yr Hello all, I have been running my UnRaid server for a few years now and all is good. At work we recently replaced our company server and I was able to take the old one home. It was running Server 2003. It has a Intel Server MB and a quad core processor. I made up another flash drive to see if it would boot with UnRaid and Booted no problem. In order to change to this new server would I just swap out all HD's and use the original flash drive? Then choose the drives in the same configuration as the old server? Aslo, I am wanting to add more drives but I only have 4 sata ports on this board. I was looking at this sata controller http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815121009. Do you think this would work? Thanks in advance, Oscar
May 22, 201214 yr In order to change to this new server would I just swap out all HD's and use the original flash drive? Then choose the drives in the same configuration as the old server? exactly... (assuming you correctly set the new flash drive as the boot device in the new server BIOS. Some BIOS attempt to help you by assigning the most recently added hard disk as the boot device. That you would need to override.) Joe L.
May 22, 201214 yr Aslo, I am wanting to add more drives but I only have 4 sata ports on this board. I was looking at this sata controller http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815121009. Do you think this would work? Does the MB have PCI-X? This is a district interface from PCI-e.
May 22, 201214 yr Without telling us what kind of server or what motherboard it is. it is hard to make recommendations. But, assuming it is a PCI-x system, that card is compatible with unraid. PCI-x is pretty obsolete at this point, it has been replaced by PCIe. If you have a PCIe slot. that would be a better investment since you can most likely take that with you into the "next" server you build. If it is only PCI-x. you will still get some life out of that card before you have to retire it.
May 23, 201214 yr Author The motherboard is a Intel S3000AH. with 4gb of RAM. Will the card work on this board? Thanks again, Oscar
May 23, 201214 yr Only if the full model number of the board is S3000AHLX. In either case, that motherboard does have PCI-Express, so your money would be better spent on a newer PCI-e card anyway.
May 23, 201214 yr If it is a S3000AH, then you have to get PCIe cards. Only the S3000AHLX has PCI-x See here for reference. http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/apac/eng/products/server/boards/up/s3000ah/feature/index.htm#specs
