August 28, 2025Aug 28 Hi,Couple of days ago I buildt my Unraid NAS. I use a Odroid H4+ with 16gb ddr5 4800 cl40, 2x8tb hdd, 3tb hdd, 1,5tb hdd and 1tb nvme.To fill everything up with data I only put 3 HDDs in my array without parity and everything went fine. As soon as I add the partity disk the sync and the problems are starting.I had 7 crashes now while syncing, 5 times the sync just crashed and nothing worked anymore, the other two times the whole system freezed.i tried to disable c states, did a whole run of memtest86 without erros. I even updated to unraid beta but it didnt help.diagnnostics and couple of syslogs attached. after a crash my server renamed to the default name and time zone. Mybe it matters. Thanks in advance for any help tower-diagnostics-20250829-0005.zip tower-syslog-20250827-0900.txt tower-syslog-20250827-1023.txt tower-syslog-20250828-1520.txt
August 29, 2025Aug 29 Community Expert what kind of power supply unit (wattage?) are you using to power the disks?

August 29, 2025Aug 29 Community Expert Solution Unraid driver is crashing. This is almost always a hardware issue. Start by running memtest, or, if you have multiple sticks, try using the server with just one, if the same thing happens, try with a different one. That will basically rule out bad RAM.

I already run memtest and all 4 passes finished without errors. I can only install one stick and i dont have replacement.
August 29, 2025Aug 29 Community Expert You still need to find what the problem is. Like mentioned, when that happens it's almost always a hardware issue, though it may be worth retesting with Unraid 7.0.1, which uses kernel 6.6, since in some rare cases it can be a compatibility issue between the kernel and the hardware, if it still crashes with 7.0.1 I would say there's a 99% chance it's a hardware problem.
August 29, 2025Aug 29 Author As I live in germany I can return new stuff for 14 days. Probably the best way is just order a new ram stick and check again ?

Do you have any way to test with a higher capacity PSU. The fact that adding the 4th drive makes it start crashing does suggest it could be power related.

At this stage 2 of the 4 drives already finished and spin down. But I also dont have a second psu.

But I also dont have a second psu.One test you could try to confirm this if you do not have another PSU to try is to remove (for the time being) one of the data drives and see if you can then complete the parity check. I have found if a PSU is borderline to exceeding its capacity then you can get unpredictable crashes.Note that if you do this you will need to later use the New Config tool to get the removed drive back into the array with its data intact.

This is the PSU for the Odroid but what about the HDDs?Are you using these? Edited August 29, 2025Aug 29 by MowMdown

I would expect each HDD to have its own power supply, and then just have a SATA connection to the Odroid board.

Anyways I already reached 97% of parity and at this state 2 of the 4 drives already finished without problems.
