System crashing

Featured Replies

Hi my system seems to be crashing, I wonder if anyone can see anything in my logs (I cant) or can advise me how to troubleshoot this?

I have my server set to auto power-on but not auto-start the array.

I usually find out there has been a problem when Plex isnt working. I then tailscale to the box (if im out) and start the array. This will tell me there has been an unclean shutdown and start a parity check.

Last time this happened I found out at around 12:00 on the 29/08, looking at the logs I cant see anything after app/plugin auto-update completed at 04:30.

Thanks for any help.

I have that enabled and I also have write log to usb enabled, sorry I thought it was included in diagnostics.

Are you sure you have the syslog server configured to actually write something rather than just listen?

To get something written you need either mirror to flash option which is the easiest to set up (and if used the file is then automatically included in any diagnostics), but if you are worried about excessive wear on the flash drive you can put your server's address into the remote server field and log to a share instead.

Unfortunately, there's nothing relevant logged before the crash, this can also be a hardware issue, one thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker containers/VMs disabled, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one, including the individual docker containers.
