October 7, 2025Oct 7 This is a follow up topic from https://forums.unraid.net/topic/194039-solved-separate-devices-into-their-own-iommu-group/I have installed a new 10Gb dual port SFP+ NIC into the system with a plan to remove the current 2.5Gb dual port card. When I initially did this on a previous attempt I added the 10Gb ports to the existing bond and then physically removed the 2.5Gb card but the system displayed an error message saying eth0 does not exist which was the 2.5Gb NIC. I tried to resolve the issue by creating a new bond with just the 10Gb ports and even though this worked I couldn't set any DNS servers for the new bond because these were set at part of eth0? So under the 1st 10Gb port (where the bond is set to yes as well as bridging) I could set a static IP and a gateway but there is no option at the top of that panel to set DNS servers because that is only available under eth0 linked to the bond associated with the 2.5Gb card. How do I remove the 2.5Gb card but then make the 10Gb card the "primary" so to speak with the DNS options available to set. I cannot seem to get rid of the reference to eth0 even when I physically remove the 2.5Gb card? Edited October 7, 2025Oct 7 by thaoggamer SET TO SOLVED
October 7, 2025Oct 7 Community Expert Solution Set the NIC you want to use as the main one as eth0. Settings - Network Settings - Interface Rules
October 7, 2025Oct 7 Community Expert yeah, move it up in interface rulesYou can simply pick the mac of the 10G one for eth0 and the other one to eth1 in the dropdown boxes.(like shown here, mlx4_core is the 10G card)Btw: consider to disable bonding and only connect one cable! "Active Backup" is almost useless unless you do not have a dog, rabbit or hamster that love to bite into the cables.BTW2: there are no DNS Server settings beside ETH0 just because, DNS Servers are global to all cards. It is debatable if the GUI better should put this settings to a seperate section/tab because many people are getting confused by the current layout. But, its not wrong too. You just have to know and to keep in mind. Edited October 7, 2025Oct 7 by MAM59
