March 4Mar 4 Hello,I have Comcast Home (dynamic ip not static) and I have messed with Tailscale and another app that is suppose to allow Me to access my server remotely outside my home network. I cant get that to work. Is this possible without a static ip? Can I set one that would allow Me to host a website, access my server remotely or something similar like hosting my own wiki that can be accessed online/remotely? I own domain names so I could point one to my server if I could get a static ip but that seems not possible with Comcast without a business plan. What are my options?Regards

I cant get that to work. IHave you seen this video?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkCqAuGhWb8Many of us have successfully set up a Tailscale network on our Unraid server. I have never heard of anyone having a Problem with Comcast preventing it. 6 hours ago, imrobertcampbell said:an I set one that would allow Me to host a website, access my server remotely or something similar like hosting my own wiki that can be accessed online/remotely? What are my options?Hosting a Website using Unraid is not recommended!!!! The OS is not harden for the type of attacks you will get if you expose your Unraid server to the outside world.
March 7Mar 7 Author Hi, @Frank1940 I tried Tailscale first. I wasnt able to get it working; installed and configured yes but not working. Furthermore if anyone is wondering, I plan to run the website hosting software (I currently use Plesk; which is considered pretty secure as it comes from the same people that make cpanel) self contained in a docker container. Wouldnt that negate the "Unraid isnt recommended for Hosting a website" issue? I plan to install Ubuntu in a container then install Plesk on top of it as its designed to be. Also even if I dont host a website with Unraid wouldnt I need to open the server to outside access/traffic to be able to access my server remotely? Whether its by FTP or if I wanted to watch a movie from my server while on the road I would need my server to be remotely accessible. I am completely new to Unraid, have the server setup locally secured and loaded with my files. Everything seems to be working great but now I wonder how to access it remotely which is why I am here. Any advice is greatly appreciated.Regards
March 7Mar 7 Author If wondering the program that I was able to get working correctly (but still need to get the static ip) was a program called "No-IP"Regards
March 7Mar 7 Why don't you ask about your problem with Tailscale in this section of the forum?https://forums.unraid.net/forum/111-tailscale/You should be able to get more targeted help there. Be sure to describe exactly what your needs and problem is. And don't hijack another thread if your problem is similiar. (You will always get more help with a thread dedicated to your problem!)
March 7Mar 7 Author I wasnt aware there was a dedicated section to Tailscale. Can this thread be moved or is it fine here? I havent even checked if I have access to other forums as I think this is my first thread. Im green to Unraid but bought lifetime license jumping in head first I guess. Thanks.

March 7Mar 7 I am not A Tailscale Guru so I really can't give you much help. But I do a fair amount of attempting to help with issues (mostly SMB/Windows issues these days) and I know what the support people need and are looking for.You really need now to post up the details of the Tailscale problem. Like what is the client on the other end of the Tailscale connection? Details about your Unraid Tailscale configuration. (You might even provide screenshots of your Tailscale setting— Be sure to redacted the Tailscale IP Addresses!) What Error Messages are you see? If Windows is involved, be sure that you are not using a 'guest' connection!. The more details/information you provide, the quick you will get an answer to your issues.
March 7Mar 7 Author Thanks for the added information. The reason I dont have the Tailscale data that is requested is because I removed Tailscale after I couldnt get it to work. I got an IP from No-IP which seems to function but I have idea how to tie it to a dynamic IP that my router assigns my server. So to be honest and fair my real issue is that; regardless of what software I am using, I am unsure (probably my own stupidity) on how to convert my Comcast Dynamic IP to Static IP regardless if my Dynamic IP changes.Again sorry that I have no more information to add as my original question was about No-Ip and I kinda got drawn into Tailscale now because it seems like the only viable way to get this issue fixed using the support forums here.So if I am understanding correctly I would need to remove my no-ip from server and install Tailscale again at which time I can get the remaining support needed to make this work? Thanks again.
March 8Mar 8 If you need help configuring the Tailscale plugin, the best place to ask is in https://forums.unraid.net/topic/136889-plugin-tailscale/
March 11Mar 11 Author Hi Jorge and other's.My issue is setting, configuring, etc a static ip for my server vs the dynamic ip assigned by my comcast. The reason this thread keeps getting moved is because of a preference between Tailscale and No-IP so Moderators believe it should belong in one of those instead of the general support for not being able to set a static ip.Im willing to try either option Tailscale or No-Ip although I already have the details needed for the No-Ip and not yet the Tailscale which seems much more difficult to configure.Where can I turn?

March 11Mar 11 Author Got it, Tailscale or nothing I guess .... onto that forum. Go ahead and close this if You wish.
March 11Mar 11 Author I used the plugin before and couldnt get it to work. Should I try the docker version? I have a dynamic ip and I want a static ip and heard Tailscale can do that. I couldnt get the No-IP address that I was given to work so I am trying Tailscale again.Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Please don't start multiple threads about the same problem. It makes it difficult to put things in proper context, and impossible to coordinate responses.

The thread has been moved a couple times now so I think it appears as seperate threads.Regards
March 11Mar 11 Author Unless You mean initially when I was told to ask my question in the other forum?
March 11Mar 11 5 minutes ago, imrobertcampbell said:Unless You mean initially when I was told to ask my question in the other forum?Your post directly above mine where I said I had merged your threads was a new thread created by you in this same subforum, title was something about tailscale docker vs plugin. This subforum is probably the correct one to use, and I have moved this thread here already, but no good reason to have another thread going about your issue here or anywhere else, and plenty of good reasons to not have multiple threads as already stated.
March 11Mar 11 Author Agreed, no reason for multiple threads. I thought I put my original post for this thread in the correct section but I guess since I am now in Tailscale thread I have to use Tailscale. Cant find any information about using the No-IP that I already have to work correctly. Will update this thread with new data after I reinstall and attempt Tailscale again.Regards
March 11Mar 11 OK, I see where some of the confusion may be regarding where to post.It was suggested that you post in the existing tailscale plugin thread.2 hours ago, JorgeB said:if you need help configuring the plugin, the correct place to ask is the existing plugin support thread, not a new one:You have never made any post to that thread, but instead, created a new thread in the tailscale subforum. If you click on that "arrowed box" in the upper right corner, it will take you to that existing plugin support thread. I suggest you include a link back to this thread if you post there.
March 11Mar 11 Author Oh ... ok. So I will try to get better at using the forums but in the meantime I will assume no support for No-Ip and re-install Tailscale. After I do that I will reply to this thread.Regards
