Cache pool missing after upgrade to 7.2.3

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Performed an OS upgrade to 7.2.3, and array comes online without an issue, but now shares show they're pointing to storage that doesn't exist.

If I stop the array, and attempt to add cache pool, I get this:

I will be the first to admit that I am a new(er) user to Unraid. I did search this topic but did not find a solution that worked in my case.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I assume a cache pool is supposed to exist? Try checking/replacing the device's cables.

Well, I know I had a pool before the upgrade. I cannot remember if it was called "cache" However I have shares that point to it.

I did perform a config backup before the upgrade, but then my SSD died, so now i'm having to just recall from my memory.

There are no disks in your diagnostics that would usually be assigned as cache.

That is a drive that would usually be assigned as cache, so that is the likely explanation for missing cache pool.

sorry, I should have been more detailed.

The SSD on my laptop died that contained the backup config.

Do you have an SSD in your server? That is what would usually be assigned as cache, but we don't see any SSD in your diagnostics.

No, I use a USB flash drive as the boot, then the SAS drives. No SSD.

**Okay, digging into it a bit more, looks like it shares used "Cache" as a primary but the array as a secondary.

Since the primary ("Cache") is missing, couldn't I just remove it as the primary and make the array as the primary and just move on?

Example:

The version of Unraid you are using can only boot from a flash drive.

Unraid OS doesn't install to any of your storage. The OS is unpacked fresh from archives on flash at each boot, into RAM, and it runs completely in RAM. Think of it as firmware.

Was one of your SAS drives assigned as cache?

Your diagnostics show 10 SAS drives, 2 as parity and 8 array data disks.

How many SAS drives do you have installed?

Don't know if the upgrade is to blame or not. I have been running with cache since before any V6 existed.

The shares that it thinks should be using cache are exactly the shares that normally "prefer" cache by default. There are good reasons to have those specific shares on fast storage and not on the parity array.

Do you actually have any Dockers or VMs?

I do have a few docker instances, but they are running via the array, so they are not affected.

Just click the shares and change them to array. It's probably an old setting, but newer releases warn about it.
