IRC Channel

Featured Replies

Since a few of us use this forum practically real time anyway how about we have an informal/unofficial IRC channel.

I will set this up on a relatively unknown hub so everyone can get the nicks they want but before i do this shout if it is of interest.

maybe there we can ask "where Tom is this time?"?

bump bump im all alone. NLS popped in for a while but no one else.

Please come on down even if it to idle cause if I dont get a few people in I will be asked to close the channel :(

I don't know much about IRC - used it years ago but forgot anything I knew.

Please provide some suggested client software for Windows, with specific instructions as to how to connect and participate.

BTW, I live on the east coast of USA and would likely be able to participate for a while during the evening (8:00 pm - 11:00 am) (I think that is GMT 12:00 am - 3:00 am).  The times you were online last night were 3:30am - 6:50am for me!  You won't find me online then!

If you use one of those one for chat client like trillian, pideon etc its really trivial.

otherwise its a client install...

or as www addition like said above.

Can anyone host a java chat client for us?

I connected through pidgin, so I won't really bother having an extra client.

After some googling i discovered that there is a java client that can be used to join the unRAID IRC channel.

It could not be simpler.

Go you:

http://irc.netsplit.de/webchat/?net=OFTC&room=%23unraid

Enter a nickname for yourself (try to use your forum nickname)

Click start web applet.

And thats you in.

Come join me :)

NASUser -

Thanks for setting this up and giving an easy link!!!

I seem to be having some technical problem, however.  See the screenshot below.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the chat applet. It works fine. I will log back in when I have more time.

Spotted you popping in along with someone called limetech a bit earlier :)

Hopefully now we can see the channel grow

The IRC channel will be closed on the 1st of July.

Not one single person has used it so it was a complete waste of time.

If you don't want it to shut then simply start lurking and chatting once ever now and again.

Such a shame it had the potential of a real time help channel for users.

bjp999: you dont have java installed or its blocked

It would help much if Tom added it somewhere in the page, and/or people started mentioning it in their sigs and of course wiki.

I agree, I also posted some links to extra software mods.

The channel is now closed. The wiki has been updated but info left in place in case it is ever needed to be reborn.

Disappointing but no great loss.  :D
