DEVICE IS DISABLED, CONTENTS EMULATED - Disk 1

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Hoping for some help, please - I am getting the status shown below. I have read through previous posts on this subject but not sure where to turn. I have ordered some new sata cables just in case. Logs attached.

Emulated disk1 is mounted, and SMART report for disk1 looks OK. Syslog indicates connection problem, and also some corruption.

Check connections, both ends, SATA and power, including splitters. Careful with connections of other disks.

Then check filesystem on disk1.

Actually syslog indicates connection problems with another disk also.

on all disks.

Why did you start rebuilding disk1?

  • Author

Hang on, how have I done that?image.png

You did exactly what the docs say to do if you want to rebuild to the same disk. You unassigned the disk, started the array, stopped the array, reassigned the disk, started the array to begin rebuild.

https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/using-unraid-to/manage-storage/array/replacing-disks-in-array/#re-enabling-a-disabled-disk-rebuilding-onto-itself

But since it is unmountable, the result of the rebuild will be unmountable.

Stop the rebuild then post new diagnostics.

Not seeing any connection problems now.

But those first diagnostics had all disks mountable but syslog showed some corruption on disk1.

Now disks 1,2 both corrupt and unmountable.

Do memtest before doing anything else.

Memtest for 1 cycle has passed

This would ideally have been done before starting the revbuild, but it's still the next step; check filesystem for both unmountable disks.

Disk2 doesn't look too bad. Click the FIX button on that one then start the array in normal (not maintenance) mode and post new diagnostics.

Then we can consider your options for disk1.

Since the rebuild for disk1 already started, there is not much more you can do now other than trying to also repair that filesystem. But you can unassign the disk first, to repair only the emulated disk only, in case the data on the actual disk can still be used if needed.

ok thank you.

I have repaired the emulated disk and everything looks ok. I have played a selection of random files that were 'missing' before repair in Plex (I know is not a scientistic test).

Am I ok to reassign disk 1 and repair?

If contents for emulated disk1 look good, you can reassign the disk to rebuild.

See you all in 20 hours 😜

So Disk 1 has now completed rebuild. What should I be looking for now? Or do we think reseating cables was the solution?

Rebuild finishes without errors; keep using the server normally; any more issues post new diags.
