July 8, 201214 yr Guys i finally received my last parts and build my first unraid box ! As a rapid reminder for you all this is the configuration : 1 x Fractal Design Define Mini Case Mini Tower 1x Asrock H67M Socket 1155 Intel H67 DDR3 SATA3 USB3 HDMI MicroATX 1x CPU Intel Pentium Dual-Core G620 2.60GHz Socket 1155 65W Sandy Bridge 2x 2gb ram 3x Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB 3.5" 5900rpm 64MB SATA3 1x WD green power 2TB 3.5" 5900rpm 64MB SATA3 I installed the latest 5.0 rc5 and everything was smooth as silk (even the RTL8111E Realtek lan card is working great out of the box). I have now installed 2x 2tb disks to begin trasfer some of my stuff (the other 2 are partially full) and the first batch of 300 gb of big movies was trasfered at 60 MB/s even without a cache drive ! Awesome ! Now i'm copying some tv series and the transfer is 30 MB/s ... is this big difference normal without a cache drive ? I'm using only user shares with high water and have to say that i'm copying a lot of stuff to my pc too via usb at the same time..maybe this is slowing down a bit ehehehe I have installed the latest simple features and it's working too. I watched one 1080p movie from my xbmc htpc and it was perfect. What else can i say...I'm really satisfied atm, planning to finish my copying tomorrow and will order a pro key do you have your parity drive installed?
July 8, 201214 yr As Joe stated if you don't have a parity drive then your write speeds will be that of a single drive, the same as if you did have a cache drive (likely why you were getting 60MB/Sec initially). Once you add a drive and assign it as parity, you will likely see between 20-35MB/Sec writes as standard. Adding a cache drive will push these writes back up to around 50-110MB/Sec, though keep in mind that will be a "perceived" increase as the data isn't being written to the array and so will not be protected until the mover is run (the default time being 3.40am every day).
July 8, 201214 yr Author Oh that is the reason I had 70 MB/s too last night eheheh. Anyway i purchased my key of unraid pro! I still not have a parity drive, planning to add a 2 TB one at the end of my transfers
July 8, 201214 yr Author While i'm waiting for the pro key (please be fast i need to add space ! ehehe) i added a parity disk and started parity...it seems 4 hours for it to finish, great
July 8, 201213 yr While i'm waiting for the pro key (please be fast i need to add space ! ehehe) i added a parity disk and started parity...it seems 4 hours for it to finish, great Once it finishes WRITING parity, perform a manual parity check to ensure what you wrote is readable. Until you perform that step, you really have no idea if the writes were successful. Joe L.
July 8, 201213 yr Author Do you mean another manual parity check ? It's everything finished now and i'm watching a movie eheheh BTW my pro key just arrived ! Yea !
July 8, 201213 yr Do you mean another manual parity check No... I mean the FIRST parity check. You've not made one yet. (so you cannot make "another") So far, you've WRITTEN an initial set of parity calculations to the parity disk, but so far you've never tried to read the parity calculations back to see if they were written properly. You've NEVER performed the first parity check. You must NOW press the "Check" button. That will verify parity was written properly ( once it finishes running). Until you do, you've have no idea if you'll be able to READ parity if another disk were to fail. All you know is you were able to write it. Joe L.
