Just upgraded from 7.0.3 to 7.3.2 and saw it supported internal boot, hence I give it a try for that. But it couldn't boot and I still can only use USB boot.

Anyone has any idea on what is exactly happening?

Since you are virtualizing Unraid and that could be related to the issue, moving this to the virtualization forum.

Following this thread as I have the same issue but then on VMware vSphere. Migration to internal boot finished successfully according to the Unraid wizard but then when I detach the USB boot device and configure the newly installed boot disk as boot device in the VM BIOS, it just doesn't want to boot up. Even with the USB still attached but just switching to the internal boot disk as primary boot device it doesn't work. Hopefully someone figured this out as I've tried everything I could think of short of creating a new VM, which I'm hesitant to do for now

Yes, it has the Settings -> "VM Options" -> "Firmware" = "EFI (recommended)" parameter set ever since I installed Unraid years ago. It's an UEFI VM indeed, always has been

Just an update for people that might be looking at this thread

The issue is with Proxmox Display settings. Instead of using default, try changing to VirtIO-GPU (virtio) or other display adapters and see if it will fix it. I'm personally using VirtIO-GPU and got it working

The garbled output actually doesn't matter, it will still boot up in the background. I got a working instance of unRAID after waiting a while even with the garbled output on Proxmox.
