July 5, 201213 yr My current box was built in 2007, and is starting to reach the end of it's life....given that it is BIOS based and can't go over 2TB drives...and is limited to 10 2TB disks which are now full...it's time for an upgrade. I've been looking around, and it seems that we are in a transition phase...MB/CPU/RAM compatability is in high flux, so I wanted to make sure that the MB I chose would work with the CPU: MB: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O Micro ATX Server Motherboard CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz LGA 1155 Dual-Core Desktop Processor RAM: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Server Memory Model KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G Most of this was taken from the prototype builds at Green-leaf..to which I thank them most humbly! I'm concerned because the SM site says to check the CPU compatibility chart (which I can't find anywhere) and warns against CPUs with built on video. I could go with a 1240 or something, but that's a huge cost hit when an i3 would likely more than meet my needs (coming from a 6 year old Celron with one core!) I'm going to pair this with the 4220 Noroco and 2xSUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 PCI Express x4 SAS RAID Controller if that matters. Any input would be great! Uses: Common python scripts (CP, SB, Sab), standard media server (no virtual stuff etc)
July 5, 201213 yr I have the same and it works great. Id get some m1015s instead of the supermicro cards. Just cheaper and for now runs better in v5. Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk 2
July 5, 201213 yr Author Really? Showing as $320 on newegg. Perhaps that's retail and they are cheeper on ebay?
July 6, 201213 yr Really? Showing as $320 on newegg. Perhaps that's retail and they are cheeper on ebay? Correct. I have 5 M1015's all from ebay. I got them for 60$-$120 each.
July 6, 201213 yr Author Fantastic, the Supermicro is out of stock at newegg, can't even pre-order...have to "autonotify" I hope that doesn't mean it is going away.
July 6, 201213 yr You could go with the M1015...right now they work better in v5. The MV8s suffer from the BLK HANDLE ERROR. Examples: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-ServeRAID-M1015-PCI-E-X8-SAS-SATA-RAID-Controller-46M0861-46M0831-/400306424793?pt=US_Internal_Network_Cards&hash=item5d341f4bd9 http://www.ebay.com/itm/46M0831-ServeRAID-M1015-SAS-SATA-Controller-/170872364410?pt=US_Server_Disk_Controllers_RAID_Cards&hash=item27c8c95d7a#ht_766wt_130 Check the thread to verify that it can be flashed: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.msg121131#msg121131

July 16, 201213 yr That build is solid. The mv8 or the m1015's are both good choices. See here for a similar build. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12822.msg121733#msg121733 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
