bparsecm
My Parity disk is showing a Smart History Warning for Power_On_Hours of 36,765. Does not show any errors. Does this just mean drive is getting old? Link to comment
aptalca
I would assume so, after all, the drive has been running for a minimum of 4 years (if non-stop) Link to comment
bparsecm
Just looking for a recommendation, would you replace now or wait for some other indication of failure? Link to comment
Joe L.
Just looking for a recommendation, would you replace now or wait for some other indication of failure? If working fine, leave it be. It is probably more reliable than a new drive. Just keep an eye on it. All disks eventually fail... it is just matter of waiting long enough. Joe L. Link to comment
bubbaQ
What is the make and model of drive? Also is the data on the drive active or static? Personally, I'd probably replace the drive purely do to age, pre-clear it a couple of times to certify it good, and keep it as an emergency spare for temporary use, or for extra off-site backup storage. Johnm
i might consider getting a new parity disk and demote that drive to a data disk. Link to comment
JonathanM
i might consider getting a new parity disk and demote that drive to a data disk. Why? The parity disk is the least important disk failure wise. If you consider a 2 disk failure scenario, I'd much rather lose the parity + 1 data instead of 2 data disks. Now, if you are purely considering performance, I'll agree with you, as the speed of the parity drive limits all writes, so an upgrade to the parity drive should help write speeds overall to a certain extent.
