memory reported is different in different parts of the interface

Featured Replies

I have 4gb of RAM in my server but when I click on the INFO link of SimplyFeatures it reports only 512k.  But, if I go to STATS/unRAID stats I slows a light less then 4gb.

Is there somewhere else I can look to see the amount of RAM being used?  Perhaps at the console?

Thanks.

From telnet you can use "free -m"

Here is some good info to know about how Linux considers what memory is free & what is used: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/

Thanks for this.  What's weird is that it reports total RAM of 3549 which is less then 3.5gb.  I'm not sure where I'm loosing about 1/2gb.  Next time I powerdown the server I'm going to rerun the memory test.

Cheers,

Richard

Does your motherboard have onboard video? It might be assigned 512MB in bios. Or you might have a bad memory stick. I'd poke around in the CMOS settings and see what information you can get from there.

could be the video but I thought I had it set lower then that.  I'll need to double check.  Since I'm running headless I don't really need any RAM going to video.

Assign the onbaord video the smallest value above zero.

I think the console still uses video ram, but if I remember correctly 256K is plenty to run the console. I remember when a 1MB video card was an upgrade, so that windows would look pretty. You probably don't have the option of lower than 8MB or so for shared video on a modern motherboard.
