Upgrading package versions with unmenu

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm currently running 0.0.2 Transmission with unraid 4.7, and ever since installing my cache drive am running into issues.  (But the two issues are very likely unrelated, and not the subject here :o).

For some reason, when I reinstall the config variables in transmission, they don't "take", unless I reboot, which is painful.  Therefore I cannot troubleshoot my cache drive issues effectively.

So, I would like to upgrade transmission to a newer version to see if I can get past the reboot issue.

1) Is upgrading a package simply a matter of deleting all the files in the appropriate flash directory?  (in my case, flash/packages/transmission*)?  Then running the package manager again and letting unmenu find and install the latest version?

2) Because the latest version of transmission does not support unraid 4.7, how would I install an earlier version - Do I just drop the .tgz file in the packages directory and unmenu will see it?  (e.g.  "transmission-unraid-0.0.2-i386-bubba.tgz")  And finally, if so, does anyone know the last version of transmission compatible with 4.7 and where I can find it?

thanks!

No version of Transmission works properly on 4.7.

It installs but it clobbers some of the libraries on unRAID.  I highly suggest you NOT run any version of Transmission on 4.7.

Which libraries exactly?

Read through the 2 threads, the unmenu package thread and the plugin thread.  They should both contain the information about what library(ies) are effected.

Thanks. I'll have to consider whether or not to upgrade to unraid 5.x.  I have been using Transmission 0.0.2 successfully for a few years, it's just the cache drive that's making me scratch my head.

However, my generic question still stands about upgrading any package using unmenu.

No... It will download and install the exact same version unless you first install a new package.conf file.

In some cases, you can download the new .conf file from a thread in this sub-forum, in other cases, you can use the "Check for Updates" button on the user-scripts page in unMENU.

In any case, the new .conf file would have the URL for the updated package.
