5.0 rc8a - Parity Disk Critical Overheat! 32768C degrees

Featured Replies

My server just took down the array, because of a slight(!) temperature rise on one of the drives:

32768 degrees Celsius, that's quite hot! How's this possible?

The drive itself is about 10 days old, went through preclear without any errors.

My guess would be a defective temperature sensor on the drive.

That's 59014.4 degrees Fahrenheit,...or 6 times the temperature of the sun's surface!!!

Holy smokes Batman,...we've got a problem.

Well at least he will not have to run the heater this winter.  8)

I just experieced the same with my drive (same drive as OP). Bad temp sensor? How can I ensure this doesnt happen again - I mean unRAID shutting down the system or should I rma disk.

I went to the computer store and got it exchanged for a new one. They didn't object when I showed them the print-out of the error mail I got from unRAID.

Got the same model of drive, no problems with it so far.

I guess they have a problem with the heat sensors on that model, as I don't seem to be the only one...

The fact that it is showing up with an IDE-type device symbol, hd* instead of sd*, indicates you probably need to go into your BIOS settings, and change the SATA support modes to a native SATA mode, preferably AHCI, anything but IDE emulation.  You may see a little performance improvement on that drive.
