SOLVED: SABNZBD / SICKBEARD Plugins stopping Unraid working

Featured Replies

Hi community,

This is my first ever post after having and loving my unraid for nearly 3 years.  Currently running latest version 5, here is a brief timeline and what I have tried, and where I have got to.  I am writing this thread with full information to help me and also others who might need it, especially my point 4 below.

1. Running plugins sabnzbd/sickbeard/cache directories (and love it)

2. Return from holidays tried to boot (server had safely been shutdown before leaving).

3. Would not boot into unraid, even after directing BIOS to USB, which sometimes gets mixed up. most unusual...

4. After reviewing the forums found this thread, seems the AMD 880 chipset (I have an athlon X2 chip with M4A88T motherboard) has some problems with multi core.  By going into BIOS and disabling the second core I was able to boot into unraid.  Thank god, progress.  here is the thread I found, which i located via the names of CPU errors i was getting:  http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=20729.msg183965#msg183965

5. Now I can boot into unraid but the server can't find or connect to the network. Syslog attached, I am exhausted.  The network address I see when running ifconfig says 127.0.0.1 which is just wrong.  I checked the network.cfg file and it still directs to the correct address.

I don't know if this is a hardware problem, it might be easily fixed from here, but I just am running out of energy and ideas.  I posted into this forum and hope it is correct.  I can't test a downgrade to 4.7 as I use 3 TB drives.

Thanks for any assistances.

What does "ifconfig" and "ethtool eth0" show?

Please see attached.

I note I actually swapped the NIC out with another one I had in case that was the problem (based on my own readings of ifconfig), but the results of ifconfig were exactly the same.  Happy to replace the NIC (cheap and easy) .  The network address of my server is 10.0.0.3, and this is what my network.cfg file says it is too.

Thanks again

What kind of NIC did you install? Is the onboard NIC enabled in the BIOS? It looks like the OS isn't seeing any NIC at all!

That's right, that is the strange thing:

- Unraid and NIC was working before I went on holidays.

- Problems when I finally got it working, as per explanations.

- Second NIC I tried out didn't work either and it was previously working.

- Onboard LAN is disabled, and also doesn't work.  This MB seems to churn through NIC's over time, but the second one I tried (an old ethernet card) was previously working so should not have been affected by some sort of power problem from the rig.  I am almost ready to go buy another new NIC  to see if it works, but my suspicion is the problem runs deeper (motherboard actually) and I am just wasting cash in replacing NIC's.  The green light on the NIC is on, but the router shows orange, and can't see anything.

I might be wrong, but I seem to recall a messed up USB can cause that. Try pulling the USB and doing a check on it in Windows.

I take it you mean the windows "Scan and Fix" function?

Tried windows scan and fix. Will try replacement NIC tomorrow when the shops open.

The green light on the NIC is on, but the router shows orange, and can't see anything.

Have you tried a new cable between the two?

Thanks Joe, I did swap it out but no change.

I flashed the BIOS to the latest, still same error, but my original problem of having to disable a core did not repeat.

My current thinking is that it is a PCI problem on the board (my non-technical description).  This would explain why more than one PCI NIC did not work.  Retried onboard LAN, still no love.

This is a line from the syslog:  pci 0000:00:01.0: MSI quirk detected; subordinate MSI disabled (may or may not be relevant).

Currently googling this.  Thanks again guys and if you have any thoughts or have seen this before suggestions would be appreciated.

I have seen those kind of issues due to a loose eth port, not the nic but the eth port itself. Does the lights near the port light up when you plugin the cable?

The ethernet ports (100) light on the back, and also show as orange on the router.  It is a gigabit NIC, and those lights don't light up and if the router saw gigabit it would flash green.

Hi all,

I decided to replace the motherboard (I am turning off ASUS motherboards generally now after some bad experiences).    Replacing motherboard did not fix it (no drama as the old one can be used in a rig I have plans to build).

Then I just went ahead and formatted the USB and started with a fresh unraid install.  WORKS!  Now I just have to update/restore my user shares and work with restoring the plugins one by one.

The problem was likely with one of the plugins (although I did disable them earlier) and potentially something in the USB as suggested earlier by Lionelhutz.

Thanks to all for your assistances.

Hi All,

By way of followup I copied the config files for both SABNZBD and Sickbeard and then deleted all previously installed files fully off the server.  It would appear it was something in those directories causing the problem.

I then installed plugins again and copied over the old config files which saved a heap of time for setups and meant both programs talked to each other immediately.

So far so good, server is back to its auto-downloading best.

Cheers
