Preparing to upgrade

Featured Replies

I want to upgrade from 4.7 to 5.0rc8.  I am doing this because I want to take advantage of the plug in system.  Currently I use my server to host movies and yamj (I utilize iskin)to serve up the movies.  I have unmenu 1.5 installed along with several packages. I read through the upgrade faq.  I read where it states to uninstall all additional add ons.  My problem is I don't want to break yamj/iskin.  So I am looking for the best way to accomplish the upgrade.

I have done a screen shot of my unmenu screen.  The biggest issue I have is I am not sure of dependencies.  I recently installed sabnzbd but dont care if it is gone for now because I am going to move to the plugin system for both sabnzbd and sick beard.  I remember having difficulties getting iskin setup and I believe I had to install unraid-web to get it to work.  I believe I attempted to install only the lighthttp server only but (if my memory serves me correctly)I could not get that to work.  Through research I installed unraid-web and then was able make iskin work.  So now I am looking for the most successful path to accomplish this upgrade and still have yamj and iskin continue to function.  Below is attempt at a screen shot of my unmenu 1.5 page.  I appreciate any help through this process.

I apologize if you cannot view the unmenu screenshot very well.  I was my futile attempt at capturing a scolling webpage to jpg/png.  I utilized a program called snag-it if there is a better way I am open to suggestions.  Anyway I greatly appreciate any help.

I think you just make sure that the packages are all disabled and will not start at next boot up.  I don't think you actually need to delete the packages or the data files created by those packages.

ok to ensure that I do this correctly, I want to confirm the correct procedure.  I go to

\\tower\flash\config

the edit the "go" file.  Here is the contents of my "go"

# Start the Management Utility

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

cd /boot/packages && find . -name '*.auto_install' -type f -print | sort | xargs -n1 sh -c

/boot/unmenu/uu

#!/bin/bash

# Install yamj dependencies.

/boot/extra/yamj-go

# Start the Management Utility

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

Then I just comment out

/boot/unmenu/uu

/boot/extra/yamj-go

Is that it?

By the way thanks for the reply.

See my sig.

Only "/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &" should be uncommented.

Thank you for the info.  Tomorrow I am going to upgrade to 5rc8.  Hopefully all will go well.

I did the upgrade and my cache drive was not listed.  The cache drive is fine in 4.7 but not 5rc8.  All my drives are attached to a SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8.  I looked for a firmware update and it is at firmware 21.  The drive that is not listed in 5rc8 is a seagate 1.5tb ST2000DM001-9YN1_S1F031FD.  Has anyone bumped into an issue like this??

I appreciate any help that you can provide

Well I believe I finally have upgraded to unraid 5rc8.  I figured out that for some reason when I enabled my old "yamj" install it caused problems with my cache drive.  Unraid would not see the cache drive.  So I wanted to pass on what I had to do to make my install work in unraid 5rc8.

The first thing I did was backup unraid.  I just copied the entire flash.  You don't know how many times this saved me during my many attempts to accomplish the upgrade.

My unraid server runs "yamj" and serves up "iskin".  In my unraid 4.7 install I had unmenu installed.  When i upgraded I found I had to do a few things to make this successfu.

1.  yamj creates an "extra" folder.  This needs to be renamed to perform this upgrade.

2. I did comment out unmenu in order to perform the upgrade.  When the upgrade was complete, I uncommented unmenu.  This casued problems with unraid 5rc8.  I think it was something to do with conflicting php.  So I ended up uninstalling unmenu following the instructions found here:  http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11764.0  Worked like a charm.  Yes I started completely fresh with unmenu.  Yes unmenu is compatible with unraid 5rc8.

3.  Next I tackled getting yamj to work again.  What I had to do was simple.  There are instruction limetech provided to install yamj.  A person only needs to make sure the "extra" folder is present.  Telnet to the unraid server and run this command " /boot/extra/yamj-go".  This will reinstall yamj and it will have all your old yamj settings.

4.  Next I decided to test yamj by performing yamj-rescan.  i ran into a permissions issue.  I had to perform in the following commands in a telnet session

find /mnt/ -type d -exec chmod 0777 {} \;

chmod +x /mnt/user/Movies/YAMJ/My_YAMJ.sh

This enabled me to run yamj-rescan.

5.  Getting iskin functioning again.  This required a web server.  With my freshly installed unmenu I installed unraid-web.  I used this in unraid 4.7 and it still is compatible with unraid 5rc8.  Unmenu makes this a no-brainer install.  I then went to http://tower:89 and configured unraid-web to serve up my current install of iskin.

I have searched these forums for info regarding upgrading to unraid 5rc8, yamj.  I could not find a lot of info.  So I am hoping that I save someone a lot of wasted effort making this procedure work for them.

That is where I am at now.  Everything seems to be functioning well.  I will need to reinstall some other things through unmenu but so far eveything seems stable and responsive.

Thanks for documenting your steps.  I am planning on this same upgrade soon.
