December 2, 201213 yr I have a case maxed out with 3 5-in-3 drive cages (15 hard drive slots) but the MB and SATA controllers I use gives me 16 SATA ports. I am interested in finding a way to use the 16th SATA port. What is the best way to mount a single 3.5 HD internally? Thanks in advance.
December 2, 201213 yr Depends on the case. If you tell us something about it (make, model, any drive cages used, etc) we may be able to suggest something. If there's some space that you can fit an extra drive, there are no fixed rules about good and bad. It's obviously good if the extra drive is placed so that it catches some of the airflow. You may need to find / make some kind of bracket to prevent the drive from moving and to make sure its electronics don't contact any other metal parts.

The case is a AZZA Helios 910 with Norco SS-500 cages. There is room on top of the power supply and on the floor of the case between the cages and power supply. The later would receive some airflow from the drive cages and this area of the case floor is vented. Thanks for the tips.
December 2, 201213 yr If you don't mind using a 2.5" drive then I have a solution. I have the same case with iStarUSA 5-in-3 cages and I use this bracket from A-Tech Fabrication: http://atechfabrication.com/products/drive_mounting_kits.htm
