August 26, 200817 yr I have the MD1500 and want to use all 15 bays for data. There is an eSATA on the back. Can I add a drive to that and put it inside the case. I know I can find room to stick the drive and I do have extra power connectors. Would I just order the same drive as the other 15 or is it something special?

Same drive, might be a slightly different cable connector.

Just need a cable like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10226&cs_id=1022603&p_id=3750&seq=1&format=2
August 26, 200817 yr You would purchase the same drive, you will need an eSata bracket and an eSata cable to bring the eSata port back internally. http://www.satacables.com/html/sata-pci-brackets.html One thing you will need to consider is mounting and airflow over the last drive. You also could purchase a good external SATA case and connect it to the esata port with no fuss. There are some really nice ones out there, plus there are some spiffy ones that do hardware RAID1, RAID0, etc, etc. allowing you to get more out of your smaller drives.

August 26, 200817 yr Author The reason for internal is that everything is in 1 nice neat box. No external piece in the way, etc. I know I will need to get it secured and watch air flow. Thanks.
August 26, 200817 yr There is a special SATA to eSATA cable. You can plug it in to the back and feed it inside the case plugged into a normal internal drive.
August 27, 200817 yr I did the same thing with the eSATA on the back - knocked out a cut-out and the cable fitted through it easily.
