December 3, 201213 yr Hi, There was no reply on my previous thread : http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=24476.0 So, my questions now : 1. Can I upgrade from 4.7 to latest 5.0 RC while all my disks are missing? I read in the release notes : "Only upgrade a server that has all disks enabled with valid parity: no missing disk(s), no disabled disk, etc. Verify everything is working correctly with your current release before proceeding." So it seems I have to make my 4.7 setup working first with my new motherboard. Correct? Or can I try the upgrade to see if the disks that are connected on the motherboard are in the list of devices to be assigned. 2. With the new motherboard, all controllers have different port numbers. That's why they are 'missing' (I think). Can I assign the data disks back on the devices tab? Will that not erase their content? thanks!
December 3, 201213 yr Never upgrade until things are stable, and you have backups of all your important data. If the upgrade goes badly and you loose a disk will you be sad?

However, looking over your two posts, I believe you either have a have (1) a bad motherboard or (2) a bad setup of the BIOS on that mother board. I would first look at the BIOS on your mother board and make sure that the hard disk section of the motherboard is setup to reflect the type of hard disks connected to it--- i.e., IDE or SATA. If you are all SATA, set it to AHCI and turnoff any IDE reference. You should not go further with starting any version of unRAID until all of your disks you have installed are accounted for. Oh, one final thought, (I almost hate to mention this) double and triple check that all of the HD power cables are securely connected and the drive cables are firmly seated. If you made any hardware change in the power setup, every one of those changes are are a potential source of failure. Even moving a cable can cause a problem.
December 3, 201213 yr Author Thanks Frank1940 ! I checked the Bios again and the drives were indeed set as IDE. I changed them to AHCI and now I see all the drives in the Unraid Devices menu drop down list. Next question : Can I just assign the drives now on the devices tab? Will they not be erased if I do so?
December 3, 201213 yr Assign the parity drive as parity and the data disks as data. The order of the data disks is not important. Assign all disks as data and the one that appears as unformatted is the parity.
