Forgot root password, can't shutdown unraid from Web Console

Featured Replies

Hey guys, just as the subject says.  I went to turn off the unraid today via the web console.  It popped up requesting a username/password, i guess it somehow got deleted from my saved passwords, pretty sure it was root but couldn't remember the password.  Am i screwed?  How do i bypass this or reset my root password without messing up my servier?  I just want to be able to shut down my server.

It is case sensitive... make sure you have the caps-lock key turned off.  But, in case you really don't remember the password....

Worst case scenario,  force power off.  Yes, pull the plug, or switch off the power supplies.

Then, temporarily put the flash drive in your PC, and then delete the "config/passwd" file.

Put back it in the unRAID server, power back on, there should not be any password at that point.  Be prepared for a full parity check since you had to power down without shutting down first.

You will need to reset any previously set password for unRAID.  (This time, try to remember it)

Actually, try the power button on the machine/motherboard first, at the very least that should "try" to sync the disks and force a umount.

If you drop power via cable or power supply, the disks may not be synced and/or umounted causing them to come up dirty upon restart.

Thank you for the link though! was starting to panic.

Yea, after logging off I thought of how I was searching the link.

So you must have done the same. You just took the very fist search result... ;D
