confused on cache drive

Featured Replies

I installed my apps(sickbeard, couchpotato, sabnzbd) and all of the directories on /mnt/cache/apps/"name of each program.

They are all working well, everything is working well. At somepoint my app folder ended up as a share. Is this going to be an issue?

I added a few attachments of my view.

Thanks.

Its my understand that a share is created for any top level directory. If you want the files on your apps to stay put, go into your share settings and make it "Cache Only" .

Or you could add a . in the folder name of your apps =>/mnt/cache/.apps/

Mover ignores such folders and they do not become shares.

And turn off SMB, AFP, and NFS for the share.

Any reason in particular for this, aside from the files being deleted or something?  I have my cache only folder shared (but not published), and don't have an issue.

If the intention is to have an applications directory and not a share then turning the services off completes the process. Otherwise the cache drive application directory will act like a regular share apart from being cache-only.

I appreciate all of your help. TBH,  I guess I'm not smart enough to turn off the SMB just for that share. If you want to add instructions on how to do it for a particular share, I will change it. For now I did what "batt01" said to do and I believe that will keep it from spreading across the other drives.

Go to the share setting and set all instances of Export: to No
