March 4, 201313 yr I have installed ipmiview on windows 8 but it won't start. Have others had the same problem or am I missing something.
March 5, 201313 yr I don't see why not, it's just a java program. Do you have java & the what not? Run either:- IPMIView20.bat or IPMIView20.jar Although, I'd recommend IPMIView20.bat considering it calls java correctly (Instead of relying on explorer.exe).
March 5, 201313 yr I have windows 8, but yeah I just use the browser-based IPMI. Just point your web browser to the IP address of the IPMI interface. If you don't know what what is (i.e. first time install) then your DHCP server/router/whatever should be able to tell you.

When I first used IPMIView (don't remember what the version was) it wouldn't work on Windows7. SuperMicro support sent me a lab version (2.7.17) that mostly did. The regular version would load but none of the functions like adding users or changing the password did. The lab version fixed the password change option. The lab version works better with my X7SBE MB's. The newer version (2.9.2) works better with Windows 7 and my X9SCM-F. So long story short I could see it not working in Windows 8 yet. So if using the .bat file doesn't fix your problem email SuperMicro support and maybe they can get it working or send you a version that does. Since I've switched to Tyan boards my only option IS the web browser that is how you connect to a Tyan board. I've also gotten use to using it on my X9SCM-F when I have a CPU installed.
March 5, 201313 yr Author The browser interface works for me. But the ipmi view still doesn't work also i can't find a .bat file in my install folder.
March 5, 201313 yr AFAIK, the IPMIView application does not offer more features than the Browser-based version. What's your use-case behind using IPMIView?
March 5, 201313 yr If I remember correctly, the Browser version requires a system wide Java to be installed to run an Applet within the Browser if you want to use the terminal. If you install the standalone utility then it bundles it's own version of Java as a component that is only used by IPMIview. I don't want Java hooked into my system, but I'm OK with it simply being a component of an application, which is why I use the standalone utility. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

I have only used it quite some time ago and with Linux only (where it came as a plain .jar file, un bundled and to be started/run from your local/system-wide jre package, AFAIR).

Looks like there are both versions - standalone .jar or bundled JRE... ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/utility/IPMIView/
