March 17, 201313 yr I have all of my shares set up to use High Water and the array has 4 2TB drives in it right now. Drive 1 has been filled up to 96%, Drive 2 to 50%, Drive 3 to 16% and Drive 4 has nothing on it. My question really comes down to why does it keep adding to drive 1 when the other drives havent hit the various levels that high water is supposed to be at?
March 17, 201313 yr What split level are you using? What does your top level folder structure look like? Split level takes precedence over the free-space algorithm, so an incorrect split level for the folder structure you want to use can force new files/folders to a particular disk.

March 17, 201313 yr Im using Level 2 for the split and my standard folder arrangement is Movies - Movie Name or TV - TV Series - Season That sounds correct if Movies and TV are you share names. However if they are folders UNDER the share you would need level 3 or the movies and TV Show contents would be constrained to the disk they were first created on as the share name counts as the first level.
March 17, 201313 yr Author So for Movies/Movie Name/files and TV/Series Name/Season/files i need to run at Level 3? If i switch levels does it reallocate the files accordingly?
March 17, 201313 yr All settings to do with split level, minimum free space, included and excluded disks are only used when placing new files on the system. Unraid never touches files allready on the array. All files also remain visible, even if you exclude the drive they are on from the share.
March 17, 201313 yr Author ok, as per my previous post then, do I need to switch to Level 3 or is Level 2 where I want to be?
March 17, 201313 yr ok, as per my previous post then, do I need to switch to Level 3 or is Level 2 where I want to be? It was not clear whether the first element you mention is the share name or the folders within the share? The point is that the share name counts as the first level. If your share is called Movies then level 2 is probably correct for what you want. However if the share is o something like 'media' and within that you have Movies and TV then you would need the third level. I was only guessing earlier as your symptoms would be explained by the share level being wrong.
March 17, 201313 yr Author yes TV and Movies are the share names. So should i be at level 3 for tv shows?
March 17, 201313 yr yes TV and Movies are the share names. So should i be at level 3 for tv shows? If TV is the share name, then with a structure of TV/Series Name/Season/files the TV and Series Name levels are allowed to be across multiple disks. Once a Season folder is created then its contents will be constrained to the disk on which the Season folder was created. If you wanted each Series name to be constrained to a single disk then you would only want level 1. This does not explain why you were getting your original problem of files not being split across disks as expected!
March 17, 201313 yr Author I agree it doesnt explain my earlier problem, im simply asking if I should change my split lever based on my folder structure. I could really care less which drive the files are on as they are all available on the user share. I just want to make sure i dont run into any issues with it filling one drive completely.
March 17, 201313 yr How do you want the files to be stored?? You can't pick a split level unless you know this. As for the likely levels you want. Movies - level 1 keeps each movie directory on a single disk. Level 2 doesn't keep anything together. TV Shows - level 1 would keep a complete series on a single disk. Level 2 would keep a single season on a single disk. Level 3 keeps nothing together. If you don't care how it's stored then just use a high level like 50 or 99. Did you do a big copy to place all these files. Some copy programs make all the directories first so doing a big copy would have put all the TV season directories on disk1 and then the files are all stuck there as they get copied over.
