August 20, 201312 yr Having been fighting issues with my server, i decided to redo my unraid setup from scratch. So downloaded latest rc16c build and install. Added my data, parity, and cache drives back in the same order as original (took a screen shot). Started the array and see my data. But the parity sync is going at about 2MB/sec, and that's if I'm lucky. I did not preclear the parity drive, but should be it that slow? It will take a week to sync at this rate. I'm still at work, but can log into remotely and get a syslog if it will help, but the only error I see in the log is kernel: read_file: error 2 opening /boot/config/super.dat [\quote]
August 20, 201312 yr kernel: read_file: error 2 opening /boot/config/super.dat Just a quick comment that this is normal with a new setup.
August 20, 201312 yr Author Just got home and here's the syslog, and the parity is currently syncing at a super slow 3MB/sec syslog.txt
August 21, 201312 yr Author I have a Thermaltake 750W PSU inside the Norco 4020 case. And currently have about 8 drives in it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153038 And on a side note, Unraid is running as a VM in ESXi with controller pass through. I'm running out the door here soon, but perhaps I should move unraid to boot directly vs as a VM to see if makes a difference?
August 21, 201312 yr Also check Firmware upgrades - Disk controllers. There may be a firmware update for your SAS card. I believe I remember one that specifically fixed issues with 'Task abort'. No idea whether it applies to your card.
August 23, 201312 yr Author Well. I just rebooted the machine directly into UnRaid, and eliminated the ESXi VM setup (for now) And I'm still getting a very slow 3MB/sec parity sync. I will look into checking the controller card as well, but may need to move the box over to a monitor first. Its been a headless setup. I will follow the link for checking if my controller has the latest firmware. But Can anyone post the recommended firmware for the ServeRaid M1015 controller?
August 23, 201312 yr Maybe one of your drives is dying or slow? Check individual drive speeds or SMART reports?
August 23, 201312 yr Author I'm in the middle of a preclear on the drive being used for a parity. And that is reading and writing at 100+MB/sec. So I think the controller is working just fine. I would like to try and drop back my unraid version to RC11 if possible to test, but I can't find the downloads. And after the preclear, I will see what the parity sync does. If still slow, will start smart testing all the drives.
