Just ran preclear on a disk last night:

This morning this was the output as well as a smart report:

Any ideas why the failure?

== SORRY: Disk /dev/sdh MBR could NOT be precleared

Had this issue trying to do a pre-clear with the drive in a cheap eSata external box -- ya know, one of those you slide in the drive bare set vertical...    Putting the drive inside the server (different mounting, but also was a different disk controller) and all precleared fine x 3.  Dunno if it's related to your experience.

This has now happened on two drives.  Both these drives have previously red balled so I was testing them.  Odd that the smart data seems OK.  Running on a supermicro 8 port data card on the unrair server.  Also tried on a Ubuntu server with a esata dock.  Guess they are good for an RMA.
