September 14, 201312 yr Hope I'm saying this right. Example. I installed unmenu which leaves me at xxxx/xxxx/.um or the like. How do I back up to the root directory so I can perform more commands?
September 14, 201312 yr Author edit- never mind the correct command is exactly cd / no "cd/" parenthesizes Isn't that the DOS command to also?
September 14, 201312 yr DOS uses the "back-slash" instead of the "forward-slash" of Unix/Linux. But they both use a space between the command (cd) and the object (/ or \). The previous poster added the quotations to make the syntax stand out, not in a literal sense. Many times "cd /" would be followed "omitting the quotes" but that extra bit of advice does get left out. BTW, Unix/Linux does support the . and .. but that's for another posting.
