September 16, 201312 yr Is this designed for the simpleton to use exclusively or is direct connection to the box or a Putty/Telnet connection still needed at one point. Sorry if this is an ultra dumb question......
September 16, 201312 yr It's very easy to USE ... i.e. instead of going to //tower you simply go to //tower:8080 ... but you DO have to log on to the console to install it (or just do it from a display attached to the UnRAID server) To install it ... (a) Create an "unmenu" folder on your flash drive, and copy the unmenu_install file to that folder [You can do this from Windows via Windows Explorer -- or just put it on there when you create the bootable flash drive] (b) Log into the server -- either via telnet or from a console attached to the system. Note that the default login for UnRaid is "root" © Do the following: cd /boot/unmenu unmenu_install -i -d /boot/unmenu When that finishes, you're done. To run it just do the following: cd /boot/unmenu ./uu Add this line to your GO file to make it load on every reboot: /boot/unmenu/uu
September 16, 201312 yr Author Thanks. I should have been clearer. I do have Unmenu installed and set to auto boot. I am having problems with Screen and Telnet. Since some of the commands in the tutorial ( http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Configuration_Tutorial ) are not working, and searching Google for hours did not turn up any results that worked ( http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16393.0 ) <<-- the most relevant result..... I was wondering if this can all be done via the UnMenu interface.
September 16, 201312 yr If you want to do something that requires command line access, you have to log in to the console -- either on a physical console connected to the UnRAID system; or via screen, telnet, etc. UnMenu does provide a fair number of built-in functions you can do -- SMART reports; UPS status; etc. ... but for things you need console access to [e.g. preclear; reiserfsck; etc.] you'll need to do them directly.

All true. But remember you get a preclear status update in MyMenu when you install unMenu. You can't start or stop the preclear but you can see it's progress. As long as you don't click on the status text before it is finished anyway.
