How to start a fresh new unraid while current array stays intact ?

Featured Replies

My current install comes way back from 4.7 Basic and has been updated many times up to the latest 5.0 stable/final.

In the process many packages and plugins have been tried out and somehow I have a feeling that some leftovers of this cause slowdowns and disruptions of a proper functioning system.

At the moment I can only get good streaming speed over Samba to my Dune mediaplayer when starting in safe mode.

So, I like to start new with a fresh install of unraid 5.0 stable/final.

What is the best and easiest way to mimic safe mode startup? A go file with only unmenu started, an empty packages folder and no plugins started?

Or can I create a backup of my usb stick, format and create a fresh 5.0 stable stick + unmenu, copy the super.dat and license key and have my current install running again with correct disk assignment and array still intact?

Thank you.

Willthe packages in the packages folder stay installed that way?

What if I still want to format/wipe my usb stick and put unraid fresh on it. Is it suffice to copy the config folder from my backup to get disk, array and parity information back?

If you want to truly start "fresh",  I'd do the following ...

=>  Run a parity check and be sure you have zero sync errors before doing anything else.  If you had errors, run it again to ensure they were all corrected ... you don't want to "mess" with an array that has any parity issues.

=>  Note all of your drive assignments [simply save or print a copy of your Web GUI main page that shows all the drive assignments.

=>  Backup your flash drive (just in case you decide to revert)

=>  Delete everything on the flash drive; then copy all the files from the v5.0 download to it; and add your key file.

=>  Boot to the flash drive.    Then simply assign all your data drives, your parity drive, and (if you have one) your cache drive.  Check the "Trust Parity" box, so it won't have to do a new parity sync; and then simply Start the array.
