January 2, 201412 yr I've had this unRAID box running for about 2-3 years, so this is a new issue. I left home for the holidays for a couple weeks, so as a precaution, I stopped by unRAID array and shut down the box. I unplugged the power and ethernet while I was gone. Upon returning, I plugged everything back in and powered it up, but I was unable to connect to the machine. I tried rebooting it a couple of times, connected a monitor to see what was going on. I found that there was no eth0 device detected, 'ifconfig' returns only a 'lo' device for the localhost. Attached is my syslog. The only relevant section I found is this: [pre]Tower kernel: e100: Intel® PRO/100 Network Driver, 3.5.24-k2-NAPI Tower kernel: e100: Copyright© 1999-2006 Intel Corporation Tower kernel: tg3.c:v3.102 (September 1, 2009) Tower kernel: tg3 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18 Tower kernel: tg3 0000:02:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 Tower kernel: tg3: eth%%d: Cannot get nvarm lock, tg3_nvram_init failed. January 2, 201412 yr Author I tried replacing the cat5E cable and using a different port on my router, still no go. The ethernet port on the motherboard is lit up green. Both the unRAID box and my router have been rebooted multiple times in the troubleshooting process.
January 3, 201412 yr any possibility your motherboard has more than one NIC? If it's an on-board NIC is it enabled in the BIOS?
January 6, 201412 yr Author I don't even see any options in the BIOS to enable/disable the ethernet PHY. I guess my next debug step is to find/install another NIC card. Looks like it might be time for a new motherboard. Nothing in the syslog that suggests a setup or corruption error?
