to all unRAIDers,

I'm looking for the best way to have my media files accessable anywhere.

I am currently running unRAID 5.0.5.  I have centurylink as an ISP, which means my IP changes every so often.  I want to be able to use DNS to access my files over the internet, secured of course.

Being a newbie, I'm not sure where to start

Look at DynDNS which runs an agent on one of your machines to auto-update the DNS records. This way you don't need to worry about what IP you are using publically.

There are other similar services, but I think DynDNS is one of the larger/more common ones.

You need to set up a VPN, as unraid is not secured to be exposed to the internet.

If you are just wanting the ability to play your media files remotely, look at using Plex.

I can stream my media files from my server to my laptop, iPad, or iPhone anywhere in the world by just selecting play on the device.
