May 28, 201412 yr I'm a REAL new user here. I just finished building a UnRaid server and dropped (2) SATA 2TB drives along with an UnRaid approved SATA controller. I also added a 1000mBps NIC to boost my connection speed. This server is just being used as a Media Server to host videos and some photos. Once I got it up and running I just logged into my old media server (just a computer with XP Pro on it and a 1TB Drive) and proceeded to copy all the movies and videos to the UnRaid Server. The photos went over without any problems. But during the copying of the videos I encountered some problems. These video files are HUGE. Easily a Gig each. And since the old Media Server has a 100mBps transferring them took a while Twice during the transfer of the videos I lost contact with the UnRaid Server. It's as if it just dropped off the network. I tried to log back in and found that there were Parity issues. So I ran a Parity Check each time (which took all night) and it seemed like it was OK. Like I said, this happened twice and I have no idea why. Anyone care to weigh in on that? However, my primary issue is that last night we had a series of thunderstorms run through the area and we lost power. After the power came on I booted up the server and saw this message FAT-fs (sdb1): Volume not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck I tried searching on "how to run fsck" and didn't see anything. I also looked through the FAQ and got pretty lost. Is there a Primer on how to run these commands from the console? Is there a way you can run them from a Remote Terminal? While I have a monitor and keyboard plugged in, my UnRaid Server is set up to run "headless" If all this is somewhere in the Newbies Guide, just point me in the right direction.
May 28, 201412 yr These video files are HUGE. Easily a Gig each. That is quite small, really - some people here are holding full BR rips - up to around 50GB. Information on how to capture syslogs is in the wiki, here. FAT-fs (sdb1): Volume not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck The reference to 'FAT-fs' makes me believe that the problem relates to your flash boot drive, so start looking there. You can remove your flash device and investigate it on another machine.
May 28, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the link. Using the info there I found how to enable Telnet on my Win7 box and log in. That's MUCH easier than running back and forth to my Server! I didn't know if it would be better to upload the Syslog or C&P it here. Rather than clutter the thread, I uploaded and attached it. When you say "You can remove your flash device and investigate it on another machine." Do you mean just take it out and see if it I can read it at another computer without running into any errors? It may well be that the flash drive is junk. It's a 4Gb Flash Drive I had for a while (free give away from where I work). If I need to swap flash drives, I assume that it's just a matter of downloading the latest copy of UnRaid (again), installing it on the new flash drive, and plugging it in my server. Right? Edit to add: Just wanted to add the system specs. Motherboard is a Biostar M7VIT 800 with a AMD 1Ghz CPU RAM: 1 GB SATA Controller: 4 Port SATA Serial ATA PCI RAID Controller Card - Silicon Image NIC: Intellinet Model 522328 100/1000MBps Hard Drives: (2) Western Digital WD Green WD20EZRX 2TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive (One as Parity and one for Data) & (1) Seagate 250 GB IDE syslog-05-28-2014.txt
May 29, 201412 yr Author I just shut down the server and removed the Flash Drive. I plugged it into my Win7 Computer and it seems to work just fine. I can open the drive window with no problems.

May 29, 201412 yr Author If plugged into a Windows machine you should run chkdsk on it to check for any file system level corruptions. Did that as well. No issues were reported. What is the next move? Edit to add: I have noticed one this that is ODD about this flash drive. When I removed it from the USB slot I noticed it was warm to the touch. To me that is a sign something is NOT right. I think my best bet would be to replace it. Am I correct in assuming that if I replace this with a newly formatted USB that has the same version of UnRaid on it, there should not be any problem?
May 29, 201412 yr Replace the drive and use a fresh install. With the free version nothing else is required.
May 29, 201412 yr Author Ok, it's done. I had to "re-register" the drives and now it's performing a parity check. In another 671 minutes I'll run another syslog.
