Mettbrot
Hey everyone. Maybe someone can halp me on that one: When running unraid I get random freezes. Sometimes when I start unraid, sometimes when it runs for half an hour. No specific scenario. This is a server with 5 disks, one of them parity one of them cache. Core2Duo CPU on some Asrock motherboard. I have the latest BIOS installed, checked the USB filesystem and the 2GB RAM with memtest. Here are the last lines of the syslog captured over telnet: Jul 14 18:07:20 Server kernel: invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] SMP Jul 14 18:07:20 Server kernel: Modules linked in: md_mod iptable_filter ip_tables kvm_intel kvm vhost_net vhost tun i2c_i801 ahci libahci r8169 mii pata_jmicron [last unloaded: md_mod] Jul 14 18:07:20 Server kernel: CPU: 1 PID: 4624 Comm: cache_dirs Not tainted 3.15.0-unRAID #1 Jul 14 18:07:20 Server kernel: Hardware name: To Be Filled By O.E.M. Frank1940
A few questions which may provide some more clues as to what the problem is. 1--- How long did you run the memory test and were there any freezing problems with that program? 2--- What version of unRAID are you running? 3--- What plugins and addons are you running? (Include the version numbers if possible) 4--- Have you done any recent software upgrades and/or changed any hardware? 5--- Has the inside of the case been cleaned recently. Is there any dust blocking the CPU cooling fins? Are all fans (case, CPU, power supply) running? Quote Link to comment
Mettbrot
1. for one cycle only. Maybe I can run the next test over night. What do we expect to find with more than one test? I recently checked all my ram chips on my main machine they were all ok. (one cylce only) I also did exchange the ram. 2. I am running unRaid 6.0 beta6 3. I run chache dirs, the Sickbeard and the Sabnzbd plugin from Phaze. Nothing more. 4. I recently upgraded the PSU from an very old 200 W supply to a 550W one. I thought it had power reasons. 5. As a matter of fact all fans are running as the case is still open. attached some more pictures, if it helps Quote Link to comment
Frank1940
Is there now a version of cache directories for ver 6.0? In the back of my memory, I seem to recall that there were issues with cache directories in the early days of ver6. EDIT: That was the reason that I stopped my early beta testing of ver 6! dmacias
I'm not sure 2GB of memory is enough. I would stop using cache directories and see if you still have problems. Quote Link to comment
sureguy
I'm not sure 2GB of memory is enough. I would stop using cache directories and see if you still have problems. It depends on how many files you have. I mostly serve media, so my unraid vm only has 512MB assigned, and have no issues. Sent from a mobile device, sorry for any typos. Quote Link to comment

True I get what you're saying but are you running 6b6 with cachedir, sabnzb and sickbeard. Quote Link to comment
Frank1940
Today, JoeL posted a new version of Cache Directories which fixes issues with version 6.0. See the first post in this thread and Reply #666 on page 45 for more details: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4500.0 Quote Link to comment
Mettbrot
Thank you guys! I disabled the cache_dirs and have minimized my freezes, thank you. There is probably something wring with the motherboard and its RAM slots that it freezes when RAM usage is high. Maybe I should look for a new one Quote Link to comment
