August 10, 201411 yr I have been running 4.7 Pro for a few years now without any issues. I decided to upgrade to 5.0.5 in order to support drives larger than 2TB. Did the upgrade by replacing the bzimage and bzroot and deleting the config/passwd, config/smbpasswd files. However, now when I boot the server, I get a broken page (see attachment). I am able to telnet into the server and login to the console. I can't get to the admin interface, and the shares are not coming up. I believe this may have been the result of unMenu which was installed, but I did not remove it (mostly because I don't know how) before performing the upgrade. I would appreciate it if someone can provide some assistance on getting this working. Thank you.
August 10, 201411 yr At this point, I'd start over. #1 => Copy your UnRAID Pro key to your PC so you have it backed up. #2 => Reformat your flash drive and install a fresh copy of v5.0.5 to it. Don't forget to use "MakeBootable" so it'll boot okay. Then copy your Pro key to the Config folder. #3 => Boot to the flash drive, and confirm you can access the Web GUI okay. What to do next depends on whether or not you KNOW which drives were your data drives, and what one was parity (and, if you had one, cache). If you DO know that (and are CERTAIN) you can simply assign all of the drives correctly and then Start the array. It will then do a parity sync, and when it's done, your array will be ready to use. You'll want to do some configuration (install UnMenu, etc.) ... but the fundamental upgrade will be done. If you DO NOT know that (or aren't CERTAIN), then assign ALL of the drives in the array as data drives, but do NOT assign a parity drive. Then see which drive is shown as Unformatted on the Web GUI. THAT is almost certainly your parity drive. Do NOT Start the array and format that drive -- just go to the Utils tab and do New Config ... and this time only assign all of the OTHER drives (the data drives) ... but again, do NOT assign a parity drive. Now Start the array ... and confirm you can access all of your data okay (you'll need to enable Shares). At this point, the only unassigned drive is your parity drive ... so you can assign it and let it do the parity sync. An even better idea would be to install your new, larger parity drive (the reason for the upgrade) and then do the parity sync. Your array will then be ready to upgrade with larger drives up to the size of your new parity drive (which can be as large as 6TB using the new 6TB WD Reds).
August 10, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the quick response. I reformatted the flash drive, and installed v5.0.5. I know which is the parity drive, and started the array with the data drives assigned. I left out the parity drive as I want to upgrade that with a new larger drive. I went into Settings, Share Settings and enabled user shares. When I browse the network and look at the shares on TOWER from another machine, I see all my user shares as well as disks 1 through 8 listed individually. How do I just show the user shares? The shares are visible, but I do not have access. Attempting to go into the share directory presents the Windows 7 "you do not have permission to access..." dialog box. I am not sure how to get it working like I had it before. I was able to browse and access all shares without entering any credentials. Could you point me in the right direction to get this working? Do I have to go into Utils and perform the "New Permissions" process? Again, thanks for your help. August 10, 201411 yr Yes - you need to run the New Permissions utility as part of the upgrade process. Regarding whether the individual disk shares, if you click on the disk in the main GUI you can set whether the disk should be visible or not as a share.
August 10, 201411 yr Shouldn't have to run any permissions script if you did a clean v5.0.5 install and didn't create any user accounts or make any shares private or secure. If you simply use root access and public shares, then it's trivial to access them. You do, however, have to set the SMB network to the same Workgroup you have for your computers. As itimpi noted, if you don't want to see the disk shares, just set their Export setting to either "No" or to "Yes (Hidden)". No will make them unavailable. Hidden won't export them so you see them on a network listing [e.g. if you open Explorer to \\Tower\ you won't see the disk shares], but you'll still be able to access them if you want to with an explicit address [i.e. open Explorer to \\Tower\disk1 ]
August 11, 201411 yr Author Thanks for all the help. I ran the permission script and it fixed the issue (before the post above was made). But my workgroup name is different. The array is rebuilding parity, and I will change the workgroup name when it is done. All I will need then is unMenu. Thanks guys. Much appreciated.
