[Solved] Unformatted Drive, need help

Featured Replies

I ran a  reiserfsck --check  and then reiserfsk --tree-rebuild  on a disk and it said completed and removed one corruption. On reboot, the disk shows up unformatted and the array starts but then is missing the data that is on that disk. Shouldnt the parity be showing the data that is missing? How should I fix this?

I think you would only get the emulated data if the drive were missing or redballed.

What were the exact and complete reiserfsck commands you ran?

I do not remember what was displayed. I put drive back in and now its trying a data rebuild but also shows its unformatted still. During the rebuild the data from that disk is not available. I think the data will begone but why is it still showing as unformatted, shouldnt i be formatting it before trying to do a data rebuild?

No, formatting is not part of a rebuild. Formatting is just the creation of an empty file system. Rebuilding rebuilds the filesystem including its contents.

Are you saying you don't remember the exact command you typed, or that you just don't remember all the details of what was displayed as a result of the command you typed? I am just asking for the exact command you typed.

Do you remember if you did reiserfsck on an sd device or an md device?

Its basically just like this situation except my drive appears to be fine 0 corrupt sectors 0 pending sectors. It is a wd 4tb red. I wanted to avoid getting having to get a new drive in its place.  http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=25006.0.  I used md for reiserfsck.  If I rebuild then I guess it would just put the bad file system back on. I just canceled the rebuild and did another  reiserfsck and now it says bad root block 0. I guess I will just let the data rebuild go and see but if anyone has an ideas I would be open. I might just order another  drive to replace this one as well. Rerunning reiserfsck --rebuild-tree /dev/md1  and will see per http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11576.15

I think using reiserfsck on the md device updates parity with any changes it makes. Maybe someone with more experience can help.

Also does reiserfsck have to be run in maintenance mode or can it be run in regular.

Rebuilt data disk, then redid rebuild tree with scan whole partition and then did a check and all good.
