JonathanM
I would like an option that would zip the current syslog into a dated file on shutdown. Possibly enforce a FIFO deletion on old zips based on either maximum total size or number of old logs kept. Quote Link to comment

JonathanM
The community powerdown script has this functionality. Take a look and see if it fits you (for now). I've used it for years. I submitted a feature request since powerdown and UPS functionality is being currently discussed. I figured it would be a good idea to get it on the record as a desired built in function instead of requiring an add on. Maybe not for 6.0, but perhaps 6.1? Until people read the forums and wiki to ask for assistance, they seem to expect logs to survive a shutdown without extra intervention. It would be helpful for troubleshooting to be able to compare historical logs, without expecting non technical people to install an add on, or capture a log manually before reflexively rebooting to try to correct an issue. WeeboTech
It's a good idea to track it as a feature request. Kudos for remembering it. Quote Link to comment
