Parity Check Question [SOLVED]

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a question regarding parity check.

I do my parity checks once a month on average, however I was curious to this :

Last checked  (twelve days ago), finding 5 errors.

> Duration: 15 hours, 12 minutes, 38 seconds. Average speed: 73.1 MB/sec

However In my list of disks, there are no errors. Each disk in the array shows 0 (zero) errors. Why is it coming back showing 5, but not showing the specific disk(s) in question. I am going to run another check soon for good measure, but wanted to ask while it was on my mind.

Thank you.

There are two different kinds of errors.

parity calculation errors.

physical drive errors.

physical drive errors show up in the errors colum.  These are sector read errors. media defects or timeouts on a sector while the firmware is attempting to recover.

I'm not sure which drive in the parity calculation can be detected, so that may show up only as errors (which are recalculated).

The errors you describe are quite common if you aren't using a UPS on your unRAID system and have dirty shutdowns.

OK thank you. I have not had a dirty shut down in ages. I always give it a reboot before parity check. Thanks for the info. I am going to start another check tonight or tomorrow and see if the results differ.
