January 16, 201511 yr it appears disk 4 has failed. it has been taken out of the array is the drive really dead or just needs to be rebuild?? smart report is attached. disk4.txt
January 16, 201511 yr Looks like the drive is fine. But you have a cabling problem. Suggest replacing the data cable and re-securing the power connector. Then you should be able to reconstruct the disk onto itself.
January 16, 201511 yr Author so im rebuilding drive and its going kb slow and getting massive amounts errors im up to 30k errors on the disk 4 30k errors are as follows Jan 16 11:42:05 Media kernel: md: disk4 read error, sector=195016 (Errors) Jan 16 11:42:05 Media kernel: md: disk4 read error, sector=195024 (Errors) Jan 16 11:42:05 Media kernel: md: disk4 read error, sector=195032 (Errors) so whats going on?? any idea??

There is no point in trying to rebuild if you are getting errors. Why you should be getting read errors rather than write errors during a rebuild of the disk I do not know. I would be looking for a way to test the disk before attempting to rebuild. Just because the SMART report does not show any problems is not always mean there are not problems. Perhaps plug it into a Windows PC and run the manufacturers diagnostic tests against it. Since you are going to overwrite its contents anyway during the rebuild you could try an option that tries to zero the disk. If the disk tests out fine in such a scenario then you almost certainly have a cabling or power problem on the unRAID system.

January 17, 201511 yr im going to replace it with a spare drive i have for back up i will then run test on it and preclear. if all checks well ill see if i add it back to the array or not I'd definitely wait to erase it until after you get a successful rebuild. It might be useful if things get worse.
