How to identify parity drive

Featured Replies

Hi,

I lost my unraid USB key during a move.  Starting fresh with a new usb key now.

How can I find out what drive was my old parity drive?  I have no idea with all the same drives.

I have an idea what drive it is, but don't want to risk losing data.

Tom was great and offered to transfer my license to the new usb key :).

Thanks

Assign all of your drives as data drives - with NO parity drive.

See which one shows as unformatted => that is the parity drive.

Now do a New Config and assign the drives again, this time assigning the parity drive you just identified.

Like garycase said, but if more than one drive says unformatted, post back for further guidance.

Thanks will do, just waiting for my key before I can.

Actually, you could use the free version and just assign a couple drives each time. Just be very careful to NEVER populate the parity slot. You could take the opportunity to browse the disks and label them appropriately, then when your key arrives you will be ready to assign everything at once.

That's a good idea -- just use the free version; assign 2 data drives ... but NO parity ... and then you can tell whether or not one of the drives is parity by whether or not it shows as unformatted.    As Jonathanm noted, you could also browse the data on the drives.

Then just do a New Config;  assign a couple more ... and repeat the process until you have identified which drive is parity.
