March 24, 201511 yr I am a little confused about the New Config command. I've removed one of my data drives out of array, which I am not planning on putting back. The drive was disk9 out of 11 data drives. Now I need to reassign all of the drives back. The question is - do I assign nothing to the drive 9, the disk I removed, and assign disk10 and disk11 as they were previously assigned or do I move disk10 to disk9 location and disk11 to disk10 and then rebuild the array? Thank you, Lev PS. I currently have shares assigned to disk10 and disk11. So, I am assuming that I'll have to keep disk9 unassigned to rebuild?

UnRAID does not care in what order or in what slot the data drives are assigned. Some people like to have slots filled from the top, while others like them to relate to physical position in the server in some way. Go with whatever you will find easiest to manage going forward. One thing to not forget is that if you have specified values under User Shares for specific disks to be included or excluded that you may need to modify them to reflect the decision you make about which slots disks are assigned to.
March 24, 201511 yr As noted, it doesn't matter. I'd just assign the drives in order without leaving an "empty" space ... but either will work. As for: PS. I currently have shares assigned to disk10 and disk11. So, I am assuming that I'll have to keep disk9 unassigned to rebuild? The shares will still read just fine (includes only apply to writes) => but all you need to do is be sure you set the correct new disk #'s for those shares after you've done the New Config.
March 24, 201511 yr Author Thank you very much. I did not realize that there was that much flexibility with drive arrangement. Makes it rather easy to manage. Rebuilding now.
March 25, 201511 yr Author In the future, if I decide to "reshuffle" the data drives, will I then need to re-initialize the array and rebuild the parity?
March 25, 201511 yr No ... as long as you're re-assigning the same set of drives (NO changes), you can simply do a New Config; reassign them to the slots you want (being CERTAIN, of course, that you assign the parity disk correctly); and check the Trust Parity box ("Parity is Valid").
