April 9, 201511 yr After I signed up with the coupon link, it said this promotion is no longer valid. Added me to their mailing list, but no 10% coupon. Bummer.
April 9, 201511 yr Author You could also try this $10 off $100 coupon: http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/campaigns/include/events/2014/TD_Discount/happyanniversary.asp?sdtid=7785863&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=lw9MynSeamY
April 10, 201511 yr You could also try this $10 off $100 coupon: http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/campaigns/include/events/2014/TD_Discount/happyanniversary.asp?sdtid=7785863&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=lw9MynSeamY Thanks! This worked great. $120 still isn't bad for a potential Red drive.
April 10, 201511 yr I'd think it's far more likely it's a Green series drive ... but it's still an excellent price. Just for grins, if you "shuck" the drive (I gather that's your plan), let us know what drive model is inside.
April 11, 201511 yr I'd think it's far more likely it's a Green series drive ... but it's still an excellent price. Just for grins, if you "shuck" the drive (I gather that's your plan), let us know what drive model is inside. OP seems to think it's a Red, but we shall see in a few days. Is there no way to tell what drive is inside unless I crack open the case? Does having the USB interface send a different model/serial number? Still trying to determine what to do with this drive. I am under ESXi, so it has terrible USB throughput. If I want to preclear the drive in the enclosure, I'll probably have to find another computer to do it on. This will also be my largest drive, so I want to make sure whatever drive I use for parity is speedy (no green) and reliable (no Seagate). Right now I have an HGST 7200rpm 4TB parity.
April 11, 201511 yr You should be able to see the model # without opening the case. Not all drive info is "exposed" through a USB bridge, but the make/model almost certainly should be.
April 14, 201511 yr Author Just got mine, popped it open, and yes, it's the WD Red WD50EFRX drive inside. Good deal, methinks, even without the warranty :-)
April 15, 201511 yr Confirmed. WD50EFRX here as well. Outstanding! Edit: Yikes. 14MB/s read on a preclear via USB 2 and ESXi. Either I'm going to have to find a box to boot up unRAID on, or I need to crack this bad boy open.
April 15, 201511 yr Author Rebate (new one) is back again today and tomorrow, if you feel like ordering a second and have another coupon :-)
