April 11, 201511 yr Can someone read the syslog and tell me whats wrong? (I had to cut out most of the syslog as it was 65MB long) Thanks New_Text_Document.txt
April 11, 201511 yr Red ball means a write to the drive failed. It will have to be rebuilt to clear the red ball.
April 11, 201511 yr Can someone read the syslog and tell me whats wrong? (I had to cut out most of the syslog as it was 65MB long) Thanks Initially, the errors that are appearing in the snippet are consistent with a bad or loose sata cable / power cable and/or a weak power supply. I would unplug the cables to disk6 at both ends and plug them back in. And, as trurl stated, you're going to have to rebuild the drive either onto itself or onto a replacement. Once you restart the server, it would be a good idea to post up a smart report for disk6 and the full syslog (which should be much smaller)
April 11, 201511 yr Author I will shut down the server and check the smart of the the failed drive. If there is nothing wrong with smart, shall I put the drive back and rebuild it?
April 11, 201511 yr Unfortunately I have a Norco 4420 with a sas backpanel. Drive might not have been sitting quite right in it. Still could be power issues or a bad backplane. Definitely try reseating the drive and/or use a different slot. The smart looks ok for the drive (although I have no idea why the temperature is hotter than the sun) To rebuild onto itself, you'll have to stop the array, set disk6 to be not installed, start the array, stop the array, and then set disk6 to be that drive. Start the array and it will begin to rebuild.
April 11, 201511 yr Author I had to get inside the server today in a long time a tiny moth flew out of it. Therefore dusty. I cleaned out all of the drives and reseated all components. The Corsair TX650W PSU is the oldest thing in my setup. I have had it since 2010. Does it really need to be changed?

You're probably good with that supply (although ALL power supplies do lose capacity as they age). Your syslog is clean. No hardware errors for the drives.
