using reiserfsck --rebuildsb

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am running Unraid 5.0.4 with a 5 drive array totaling 13 TB +parity.  I

I got an error message that I needed to run fsck on sdg1. I have never set up a cache on the system, but the drive that stopped was the first data drive (sdb).  Went to wiki to see what I should do.  Ran "reiserfsck -- check /dev/sdg1" and got the message it could not find the superblock and that I should run "rebuildsb".  Back to wiki.  Read that to run rebuildsb you need to anser questions perfectly.  I thought I would take a look and see what the questions were like.  I saw the first question, What version of reiser are you using.  I spent a couple of hours looking for the answer and am still not sure.  I would guess it is 3.6.x.  Not perfect, so i am asking for help.

What are the questions? What are the answers?  If I need to provide more information to you what do you need?

Thanks in advance

Howard Miller

Are you sure you should be running reiserfsck on the sd device and not the md device? Normally it is run against the md device so parity is maintained.

Where did you see this error message?

Turl,

I noticed that sdb (disk 1 was red lighted) and the array had stopped.  I got the error when I rebooted the system. the error said to run fsck on sdg1.  I have no md type devices.  I ran "fsck /dev/sdg1" and nothing seemed to happen.  Then I went to wiki and read about reiserfsck.

I went back when I got your reply and ran "fsck /dev/sdg1" to give you some more info. The reply message was;

    fsck from util-linux-ng-2.17.2

    fsck: fsck.vfat : not found

    fsck:error 2 while executing fsck.vfat for /dev/sdg1

What am I supposed to run to fix my errors and what would the syntax be?  I am relatively new at coding and syntax and working on the command line. Please help.

Thanks

Howard

What device is /dev/sdg?  It seems strange that you should be getting an error suggesting you should run fsck.

You are meant to start the array in Maintenance mode before running reiserfsck.  When running Maintenance mode the md devices are available.  Failing to do so will invalidate parity and remove any chance of recovering a failed disk until parity have been rebuilt.

That error message suggests that sdg might be your flash drive as that should be the only FAT based device in a normal system.  Errors on the flash drive are normally fixed by plugging it into a Windows system and letting Windows fix any errors that are found.

If sdg is not your flash drive then you may have a more serious level of corruption.  Providing the syslog may help with diagnosing your issues.

Turl,

With 5 data drives I did not understad how I got a sdg drive. I was not aware the the flash drive was involved in other than the boot process.

The array was started in the Maintenance mode.

I will try to clean up the flash drive in an Windows enviroment.

Why is data disk 1 (SDB) red lighted?  Will I  have to run other fixes to complete this repair?  Should I be learning more about Linux or something else?

Thanks

itimpi, turl,

Sorry it took me so long to get back.  I was on assignment for the last 2 weeks and did not get to work on my Uraid server.

I tried running repairs on my flash drive.  That did not clear anything up I still have problems. The same I described earlier.

I have attached the syslog from yesterday when I booted up the server.  Hope it helps

Thanks

Howard

trurl,

I sent the screen shot you requested.  Is there any thing further I need to do?  Can you tell me the next step?

Howard

Do you have a spare drive you can use to rebuild disk1?

  • Author
