July 19, 201510 yr I am currently installing the latest version of UnRAID and am very early in the process here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Configuration_Tutorial I am still in the beginning section (trying to get setup to pre-clear my disks) but I did want to set my root password. One thing I have noticed is that my password changes are not "sticking around" I have tried to change the root password via the passwd command and from the Dynamix console. But when I reboot, the root password is blank again. I am sure it is something very obvious but I am puzzled - I guess it could be a battery issue? Thanks for any help and ideas - I am sure it is something silly.

Changes made via the passwd command would not survive a reboot as the main OS is purely in RAM. This means that such changes need to be saved to the flash drive and applied each time the system boots. Normally one lets unRAID handle this for an standard change, although users can edit their 'go' file to apply non-standard changes. Changes made via the web GUI should stick so if they are not this is a bug. If you are sure this is not working you might want to post a diagnostics file (obtained via the Diagnostics option on the Tools tab) taken after a failed attempt to change the password to see if anyone can spot any obvious issue.

In the GUI the password field is always shown as blank. Eventhough a password is set. After you change the root password, close your browser completely. This will force it to do a new login with the new password.
