Updating from 6.0-beta10a to latest release

Featured Replies

Hi,

i have been running my unRAID server for a while but haven't updated since 6.0-beta10a. I would like to update to the latest unRAID 6 release now and was wondering what the correct way of doing this is.

I am using a couple of docker containers and if I have read correctly the docker system has changed somewhat in the last releases? Is there a way of updating 6.0-beta10a to 6.1.3 without losing my raid and docker configurations?

Thanks

edit: I also currently have unMENU installed...do I need to remove anything before updating?

Some more information on this:

I do have the plugins page and therefore can check for updates to the core and docker plugins, both state "Status: no update" though...

Can't remember if there was an issue with early betas not properly checking for updates or not.

You can always just download the full version, and should be able to just copy over onto the flash bzimage and bzroot.

But, since you're running docker, you're going to want to read the release notes for at least 6.0b14 since that's where some changes came into effect http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=38295.0

Beta 10 did not have the option to upgrade via the GUI.    Also since Docker is now built-in it should not be installed as a separate plugin.

Thanks Squid,

I think I will try to do that. Do I copy the config and syslinux directories as well or just the files you mentioned?

I had a look at the docker changes...should work. I will see how it turns out...

I am not completely sure what your point is exactly tbh. My beta10a has a button that checks for updates on the plugin page. If it is functional in this version I cannot say.

Yes, Docker is now built-in...but it isn't in my version. Again, what do you mean?

On your flash drive, look in /config/plugins.  Delete dockerMan.plg  (may be named something else however)

Copying over the syslinux directory shouldn't hurt anything.  If you copy over the config files, they will over write any settings you may have changed.

I see, thanks.

I do have a dockerMan directory in /config/plugins. No plugin file though, it is just images and configuration files. I can't find the plugin file anywhere else, which strikes me as odd.

Since I need to rebuild my docker file (it is on an btrfs volume) I was hoping to use my current templates to redownload my containers (Needo) as stated in the docker file upgrade post. Might be I am biting of more than I can chew with adapting the docker container AND switching to the new docker implementation?

I think that at that release it was not the current feature that supports upgrading the whole unRAID release, so the check for update fails as it is looking for an update mechanism that is not compatible with beta 10.

If you have the separate docker plugin installed then it will interfere with the built-in one.  You therefore need to remove the docker manager plugin.    I am not sure if any special steps need to be taken to bring forward your docker settings to the built-in version, but I am sure this was covered somewhere either in the Release Notes or in the forum around the time the docker manager plugin was built-in.

Thanks to both of you again.

Just wanted to let you know that I now have a running 6.1.3 with my docker images restored. I had to make the flash drive bootable again after changing the files. Don't know why but the stick would not boot anymore.

Everything seems to be running extremely well and especially the inclusion of dynamix is absolutely brilliant. I am very please with the latest version (as I have been with all others so far ;))
