Can't see the AOC-SASLP-MV8 BIOS menu

Featured Replies

How do I get the AOC-SASLP-MV8 BIOS menu to appear?  My new AOC-SASLP-MV8 is working happily in my 6.1.3 unRAID, but at no point in the boot up process do I see a screen showing the card's status, nor does CTRL-M do anything at all.

My server is booting right up without delay, and parity checks are faster than before, but I'm a little worried that I'm missing something.  The 2-port Monoprice cards that I pulled out of the server displayed their BIOS without issue.

Maybe I'm not seeing the BIOS menu because the card is in the motherboard's PCI-E x16 graphics slot?  I don't have a 4x slot for it to go into.  My motherboard is an MSI H81M-E33 V2.

If you've got the full screen logo enabled, it might interfere.

But either way, there's nothing really in there anyways, since its not a RAID card.

Nope, the mobos logo is disabled.

OK then, I guess I won't worry about it :)

According to SuperMicro, if the BIOS isn't displaying it may be because it's an out-of-date BIOS.

You COULD flash the latest firmware for the card ... but quite frankly if it's working well, I'd just leave well enough alone.

If you DO want to do the flash, create a bootable USB Flash drive [You can use Rufus to do that -- https://rufus.akeo.ie/ ]; then put the latest firmware update on the flash drive along with the mvf.exe utility and the BIOS update .bin file.    Then just boot to DOS with the flash drive and type "mvf ***.bin", where *** is the name of the binary file containing the firmware.

Note that the firmware download is not available directly on SuperMicro's site -- you have to contact them to get it.    However, this direct link is to the v21 firmware, which is apparently the most current for this card:  ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SAS/Marvell/MV8/SAS1/Firmware/3.1.0.21/

Bumping an old thread just because I came across this myself with the SAS2 version. I have 4 cards, 2 of which go through the visual group/port initialization screen, prompt for Marvell bios, and are selectable from within that bios. Two do not go through that initialization process and are not visible within the Marvell bios for management. Like the OP, they all seem to work just fine when it comes to unRAID and disk access. I won't flash what isn't broken, but it can certainly be a bit disconcerting when the cards are supposed to be identical, but half act differently.

The cards are physically identical; but a modern controller card is really two parts -- the hardware and the software (firmware).  With different firmware on them, the cards are NOT "identical".  But as noted earlier in this thread, if all is working well, you very well may want to just leave well enough alone  :)
