dikkiedirk Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I download many manga videos and most of them come in HEVC h265 format nowadays. Unfortunately my Dune mediaplayer won't play them back. What would be easiest and best way to play them back? Transcoding on the fly? Which transcoder would you advise for this? Or could I auto convert them in sabnzb post processing? Are there any options to do this?
BetaQuasi Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Plex handles h265 just fine, it's what I use.
dikkiedirk Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Plex handles h265 just fine, it's what I use. Do I need to do anything spedial to get it transcoding h265content? Or does it communicate with the client to see if transcoding is neccessary? Second problem is that I dont have a plex client for my Dune player. I have tried emplexer but it produced some timing error that reponse took too long.
Leifgg Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I have tested some 4K sample h265 files on my Samsung TV and that worked ”out of the box” without transcoding. You need to check for each client regarding the need for transcoding. There is also a new feature in PMS called “Optimized Versions” where you can do transcoding in advance to a format that a specific client can play using Direct play.

I have a 2 year ol LG Smart TV that connects to Plex and and sees the files but when I select them it says format not supported. Which Plex docker do you use? Where can I find this Optimized Versions feature?
Leifgg Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I am using the container from Linuxserver.io but they all download same PMS files so that shouldn’t make any difference. However the container must be able to get the PlexPass releases to see this new feature. The thread regarding “Optimized Versions” is located in General Discussions (PlexPass) at the Plex forum. Haven’t noticed or used this feature since I just spotted it yesterday at the Plex forum. A guess is that this is very much beta for the time being. From another tread at the Plex forum: Is this a new feature? In settings under Plex>Server>Optimized versions? Looking under activity>conversion> (in plex web) there is a menu to create optimized versions of a file, I don't remember this ever being there, or anyone discussing this previously? This is under version .9.14.2 of the server. BTW. PlexPass version 0.9.14.3 is out today as well (transcoding was broken in 0.9.14.2)

Leifgg Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Is your container capable/or set to get PlexPass versions? What Plex container are you using?
dikkiedirk Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Is your container capable/or set to get PlexPass versions? What Plex container are you using? Just switched to binhex-plexpass. Now I am on 0.9.14.2. Don't know which is on 0.9.14.3 though.

Check your settings for the Plex container. If you enable Advanced View, look for a Variable Name called VERSION. If you have that enter this as Variable Value 0.9.14.3.1555-590ac74 and save.

interwebtech Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 For a stable and current (as in dev is still updating it) Plex client for Dune (using Dune D1 here), check out DPC by author jmper on Plex forum. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/33136/dune-player

Any help is welcomed. Does this indeed work? Also with transcoding? I have a Smart B1. What is the latest and possibly greatest? version? 1.08? I have another thread about Plex, maybe you guys can chime in there too: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=44205.msg422098#msg422098
