There's a way to have the physical cdrom drive on a VM?

I'm trying to have the physical cdrom drive accessible from the VM, I know that's possible in QEMU-KVM as it's working for me in Proxmox-VE.

 

I manually wrote in the XML this:

 

    <disk type='block' device='cdrom'>

      <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/>

      <source file='/dev/sr0'/>

      <target dev='hdd' bus='ide'/>

      <readonly/>

      <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='1' target='0' unit='0'/>

    </disk>

 

The problem is that after first boot, the line <source file='/dev/sr0'/> gets deleted, and my VM has a cd drive with no cd inserted

There's a workaround?

Thanks for the hint.

 

After have see which device is the cdrom on lsscsi, I added this in the XML:

<controller type='scsi' index='0' model='virtio-scsi'/> 
    <hostdev mode='subsystem' type='scsi'> 
      <source> 
        <adapter name='scsi_host1'/> 
        <address type='scsi' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> 
      </source> 
      <readonly/> 
      <address type='drive' controller='0' bus='0' target='0' unit='0'/> 
    </hostdev>

and it works fine, can even burn CDs (after having installed the virtio scsi drivers)

So I'm also attempting to passthrough my cdrom drive to a Windows VM. I attempted pasting in your provided code however I'm assuming due to the fact that we do not have the same hardware. I will need to figure out something.

 

How can I figure things out?
