January 16, 201610 yr I'd like to see the docker app have it's own update option outside of the overall unraid update. Docker releases are at a faster pace than point releases from unraid, log rotation in 1.8 + is something we're already missing out on with the strategy of only updating docker on unraid point releases.
January 18, 201610 yr Also strongly agree from the security side of the fence http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=44165.0 The TL;DR version is it is a just a matter of time before a serious docker security hole will force a high priority immediate update and lagging behind as we are that will necessitate a vast version bump at the same time. Never a good position to be forced into bumping many stable versions without any beta testing.
January 19, 201610 yr We did not upgrade docker in 6.1.7 because it breaks compatibility docker manager. It had to do with how the newer docker client interacts with the Docker registry. We have since patched docker manager to work with the latest docker registry API, but those were just one of a larger set of patches that we applied to the UI overall as part of 6.2. We are not backporting docker manager 6.2 to the 6.1 branch because it is even less effort to simply release 6.2 at this point. All of that said, I'm curious on your thoughts of the most important features docker has added since 1.7.1?
January 19, 201610 yr Certainly the Docker log rotation feature as a last resort safety measure. Also, thought should be given to a universal logging subsystem such as fluentd as a proper fix to this especially since it was added natively in 1.8.0 and is no longer a big effort to deploy. Docker network features included in 1.9.0 add a huge amount of functionality and potential security but adds a layer of complication to the GUI and therefore may be a power user feature only. Certainly we should support it at the command line so it can be used without breaking anything else. Docker stats whilst not new has been upgraded in 1.9.0 and is a genuinely useful tool to debug what is essentially a black hole of resource usage.
