Basic Security

Featured Replies

I think a fairly critical omission previously mentioned but mixed in with many other feature requests has to be basic security.

It's crazy to have the default install be running as root with no password and to have absolutely no non-root user access.  Even the free version should have one user (maybe "Guest") with a user specified password.  I'm terrified seeing all these plugin tools that do all this wild and crazy stuff with a box with NO ROOT PASSWORD.  All it takes is one bad torrent and your disk is a spammers playground.  All parity protected and upgradable!

Beyond that, I'd like simple user level share access control in the Plus version.  Active Directory is just WAY overkill for most users.  If I wanted that I'd be running Windows Home Server.

And as a final request - Keep it small and tight at the basic level.  It's a STORAGE solution, not an EVERYTHING solution.  Solve one problem well and if someone wants to mess with the rest, let them.  But stick to the stuff that Lime does right, protecting data and managing drives.

Thanks again!

The fact that it is the default configuration is the issue with the "product".  It's almost as bad as having a default password that everyone knows without encouraging it to be changed.

Thanks for that pointer.  I'll check out that link and see if there's something I missed.  (Yea, mine didn't stay blank for long)

I like the current configuration.

If you want to add users and passwords on your NAS then just read the manual and do it.

Anything additional above basic storage is something you have to manually add.

Seems to be FUD to me. Please explain How?

This is what it does. Anything additional above storage is something you have to manually add.

I like the current configuration too! If you are concerned about security just don't put your box on the internet, but behind a firewall. You don't need to do torrents from it either.
